Because cast iron structures are extremely stable, they can be used to manufacture the housings and bases of many mechanical devices.
Below is the reason for using cast iron to make machinery lathe parts:
1.Compared with cast steel materials, cast iron materials are more competitive.
2.Cast iron is with exceptional damping capacity.
Cast iron, especially grey cast iron, is often used for custom lathe parts because of its ability to absorb vibrations. Its shock-absorbing properties help maintain the stability of cast iron lathe bed bodies, lathe supports, or bases, thereby ensuring the dimensional accuracy of lathe machining.
3.Cast iron is often used for mechanical housings or bases due to its stable material structure. It is also known for maintaining its shape during contraction and expansion caused by temperature fluctuations.
4.Cast iron consists of graphite flakes with sharp edges, which act as stress concentration points under tensile stress. This structure results in lower tensile strength and toughness of cast iron, but its compressive strength remains high.
5.The flake morphology of graphite in grey cast iron enables it to absorb compressive and vibration loads without cracking. Generally speaking, vibrations can be critical in mechanical equipment and can cause poor operation or even failure.
